Subs vs Dubs Bonus Video [Patreon Unlock]
Last year I made a Patreon exclusive bonus video for the main Subs vs. Dubs video, diving a little deeper into a slightly more convoluted, yet nonetheless very interesting example of localization in Yu Yu Hakusho. Now that a year has gone by and I've slimmed down my Patreon, I'm releasing it for everyone else to see. As I say at the beginning, I highly recommend watching the original Subs vs. Dubs video first if you haven't already seen it or it's been a while for you so that this video makes more sense.

Shadow of the Colossus and Assumed Heroes | Critical Mode
The show hit me with inspiration and hope back in 2002, I ran away from an abusive home and family, I joined the military, became a nurse, met my life partner with a similar background and feel I made a better life with better decisions. Still have depression, but it's ok, I connect with those around me and try to be available to those who need it, maybe not perfect, but none of us are perfect,. I connect with Shinji, how do we live on with trauma, and be a reasonable person in a world with unreasonable people? We can commit atrocities or save the world in our own way, loneliness can make us do dumb sh!t. The series is and has always been a slap in the face we all need, but don't deserve (the positive realization some get). Can't wait for 3.0+1.0 (subjective) analysis.
16:04 I feel this is too detailed into F91 to be called "how to get into gundam"
I started my friend with origin 🤷🏽♂️ better to get the understanding of the politics from the get go.
8:00 correct me if i'm wrong but wouldn't that kill him? isn't batman's whole deal that he refuses to kill?
First of all thank you for saying the name correctly. Alot of people say Chronicles instead of Chronicle and it grinds my gears. This was overall a pretty good video. There is a little more to the story of the anime being canceled. In the season 1 finale, characters are brought back to life. That is a big rule of CLAMP's, not to bring back the dead (though I swear they break that rule themselves in their recent stuff). Anyway, CLAMP was pretty peeved at the studio Bee Train for that, so that's why in season 2, the Tsubasa gang go back to that world and the characters die again. CLAMP was less than happy with a fair amount of the filler, so that contributed as well. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is and always will be my favorite series (anime and manga), it's what really got me into anime. The anime has so many flaws, but it will always hold a special place in my heart. It's what made me a CLAMP fan. I've done CLAMP informational panels for several years and when I talk about Tsubasa I always just recommend the manga and OVA's because I know the anime won't get people interested, especially in todays climate of wanting crazy cool animation. It does make me sad that CLAMP just has bad luck with their animation adaptations at times. Unlikely to happen, but here's hoping for some new beautiful animation for Tsubasa in the near future!
EoE is when you take a lot of shrooms and go to a really hardcore Mass
Doobus Goobus parodied the chicken soup angle w/ Freeze as the cure for Nora's disease.
I dunno. The time this anime came out, it was good. If you compared it to trash like inukai dog or reborn as a vending machine. Tsubasa chronicle would be 10/10.
People that came back after 4 years and now is the 44 anniversary of gundam because he said is 40 am i wrong?
Dicks and cum And birds with annoying sounds
What happened to your eyes? It is all over the place
I love Tsubasa's soundrack, the Tokyo movie and its manga. It's such a great mess of a series, but in a good way, I love it so much. But really, I also find very hard to recommend things that are "bad" for people, I mean... I want to recommend NANA to others, I want to say that it's a masterpiece, but it doesn't end (neither the anime or manga). I want to recommend Inuyasha to other, say that it's amazing, but you kinda need to skip like about 90 episodes of the actual show, because it drags a lot if you don't. I want to recommend CLAMP's works to people, or the .Hack// series, say that they are insanelly good, but you have to watch / read / play 15 different things to actually understand something. Yeah, I get you, it's hard, I guess people will just miss those :/
Great assessment. But it is more about understanding the villain. For example. The joker isn’t just crazy…he is trying to prove that ANYONE that has “one bad day” can be driven crazy. From simple origin stories to tricking Superman into killing Lois lane, he is just trying to prove what happened to him can happen to anyone. A more chilling tale…I don’t recall where I heard it, joke was with two other villains. They had a deadly poison and were going to poison Gotham’s water supply. One said to sell the antidote, another said destroy the antidote, the joker said announce that the antidote was at a local sporting arena and there were half the antidotes needed for the population of the city. Chilling….but again. Just trying to prove that given the right push, ANYONE could become The Joker.
awesome
54:07 the answer to your question is here. things aren't so black and white, so it is in art, there's no given answer to what Eva is about, it's just portraying loneliness, depression, sexuality, and above all human connections in a new way to convey emotions and aesthetic pleasure. searching for absolute "objectivity" is pointless, it's not science or maths
I’m here to say if you’re Catholic or even gnostic the judeo Christian themes of Eva make more sense with pre determinism and pre destination. You sort of have to be a theology scholar to understand Evangelion
followed this 2 years ago. now ive completed the UC, RC, FC, AW, CE, PD, and starting on the 00 timelines! I am alsk currently reading and playing through gems like Zeonic Front, Crossbone, Sentinel, F90 Fastest Formula, and MSV-R! This WORKS!
3:04 i loove this clip, finally someone referenced it!
Mr. Frezze is one of my favorites his super freeze suit is awesome but emotional in the beginning fff-up righ.
I thing y should not recomend UC gundam to newcomer.😅 Just give them Seed or 00.👌🗿 And never show them WFM 🔫🗿
I was with you until your white guilt slipped in now... Sadly I'll never watch another video
i would just watch the origin first its the litteral start of UC and has sick animations a good story and most importantly sets you up to understand why char does what he does its the perfect start and lets not talk about the point that the origin explains slowly and steady why zeon does the things it does the perfect start into gundam xD
The first I saw was Gundam Wing with the 5 super soldiers
There’s villains like Joker, driven by petty obsession and a belief that all it takes is enough demoralization to make anybody stoop to their level. Then there’s villains like Lex Luthor, driven by ego and a need to vindicate their delusions of grandeur. Then there’s villains like Catwoman, driven by greed and a hunger for thrills. Then there’s villains like Mr. Freeze, driven by love, willing to do ANYTHING for someone they adore, whose very presence in their lives made them worth living.
Cringe af
This video’s title should be “why F91 is good”…
Wait, it’s subjective? Always has been
Wow, I’ve never watched the anime consistently. I’ve only read the manga and it’s so relevant that those worlds were banal on purpose and that dragonfly race arc is the last breath of fun before ***suffering***
I couldn't find the full series anywhere, so I just settled with the compilation movies, I thought they were pretty good, are they a decent enough substitute? Edit: I watched a different timeline video and started with F91 because it was pretty detatched, then I watched the compilations and will probably watch 08th MS after
I watched Gundam F91 and Gundam Seed when I was a teenager in Nigeria 14 years ago.
Did you not start with the compilation movies of the original series? I started with the movies, and I got into Gundam just fine. Why do you think they don't represent Gundam well? It's the TV series but with most of the stupid and off-model parts cut out or fixed. And you called the ending rushed in the the TV series, and you're right, in the TV series it is not built up to enough. But in the third movie, it is built up to so well that I consider it one of the best endings in science fiction (not just SF anime). Also all of the flashbacks in later parts of the series reference the movies rather than the TV show (Sayla is always in the core booster when Lalah gets…um…you know). And I would NOT recommend F91 for a first outing. You called the characters likable, but I found them all really hard to like, and that affected my enjoyment of the film. The visuals are stunning, but the plot leaves a LOT to be desired and the characterization is probably the weakest in all of Universal Century Gundam. I sometimes rewatch the movie for the visuals, but never for the plot or characters. My suggestion would be to watch the compilation movies of the fist series (but not Zeta's compilations, just do the TV series of Zeta). It has a really rough start (which the TV series also shares), but even the first movie has emotional beats that hit hard like the section where Amuro meets up with his mom. The second movie is better than the first, and the third movie is just fantastic for a 1980 movie, series compilation or not. The problem, of course, is the extremely dated animation style which is also shared (even more so) by the TV series, the fact that the heroes are flawed and unlikable at first, and there are quite a few points where the plot drags. But everything comes together really well in the third movie. If you're too used to the TV series, you'll feel disappointed that some parts are cut out, but that won't affect first-time viewers. And the movies make you extremely invested in the characters by the end, something that F91 just does not do. Finally, I am not really sure there were bad ratings for the original TV series. Another UA-camr dug up an interview with Tomino who said that the ratings weren't bad, so he was surprised by the too--quick cancellation. It was the toys that were not selling, not the show itself. Like Robotech in the US a few years later, the fans of the series were too old to want the toys, which is why the plastic model kits sold so much better for Gundam (Robotech didn't profit from the model sales.)
Just caught your channel - love the content!! Would love more 🙏🙏🙏
Im personally thrilled the japanese audience want satisfied with the end of tv. If it wasnt for their dramatic backlash there more than likely would have never been the 1997 movie. For me the End of Evangelion is the cown jewel of this artistic masterwork.
If you read all the clamp anime ( and no you shouldn't have to), there are a ton of callbacks. Like the "pokemon" are from Rayearth. Another Clamp anime. The vampire twins are from X1999.
This and D-greyman are on the same level, I love them, but they are flawed.
Watching this video now makes me wonder where you're at by 2024? After so much got worse 2020 and now that we're finding out so much about the corruption, about the money and about devastatingly evil habits in governments and in Hollywood and how deep the corruption went from the military industrial complex to the medical and covid manipulations devastating inflation and infrastructure instability, rampant migrational influx. It would seem that life has taught us a great deal about how bad things can truly get and continue to even get worse.
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle deserves a anime television remake?
Oh definitely! If it got a remake by Production IG that kept close to the manga like the OVA's, it would be fantastic. Though I feel it would never happen because of the OVA's unfortunately. They left out 2 worlds in-between the OVA's so it would be wonky making things work once the Tsubasa gang gets to Tokyo. I guess unless they just make more OVA's and a movie(?) that covers what was left out.
Need more mr. Freeze
Yup, Joker #1 and HoI best standalone episode. Mr. Freeze just didn't have great rerturns like The Joker.
The traditional method of getting into Gundam for the first time is falling into the cockpit
Resetting the universe over and over until you get a proper big tiddy girlfriend.
I had a similar experience with this show. I was a freshman in high school and where I’m at my school bus ride was almost 2 hours long and I got on the bus at 4:00am. I was alone for the majority of the ride so I just watched a bunch of different anime on my phone. I saw this one and felt so disappointed by the end (I didn’t know what ovas where at the time cause I was fresh to anime having learned about it less than a year before that. I also felt that there was a better show in there and I’d love to see it remade someday
Lol the cicadas. What a perfect intro.
25 minutes wasted, watch another video pls, he rambles about random bullshit
Greaat video
When they signed Tomino and his crew to create toy advertisment series i bet they didn't expect he will bring them an epic space opera.
G-Wing & EW are still the best... espionage, war, and overall storyhas a special place in my heart
Its really sad that the writers destroyed him and nora in the newist series and Mr freeze as a pathetic joke while nora goes of and sleeps around
Just mentioning this anime gets me hyped then hollowed out all in the same time
Thank you for talking about how thirsty the show is! As a teen, I barely noticed. As an adult and mother, there is so much objectification of women!
